Romanian Ministry of Health proposed a bill allowing abortion up to 24 weeks pregnant at the age of 15 years.This decision was a response to received high-profile case of 11-year victim of incest and rape, have been allowed to have an abortion at 21 weeks gestation period, sparking protests from religious organizations.Currently, the Romanian law allows abortion for up to 14 weeks, except in cases of threat to life, women and "extraordinary circumstances".What exactly should be considered extraordinary circumstances, the law does not specify.It is expected that the new law will come into force on 21 August.The final decision on it will be accepted during the public and medical debate.
